Man-Made Horrors for Your Pleasure!
April was a month… Deadlines slipped as life got in the way, but as I write this we’re putting the final touches on the latest video! If it’s already out you guys already know all about it, if not then you’re in for a treat. This video has gotten us a lot of footage that though it didn’t quite make it into the video but will be perfect shorts material. We’ve been a bit lackadaisical with our shorts uploads, but we’re trying to make sure that the main videos have plenty of angles to bring short humorous yet informative snippets that if cut can be more easily spun off as shorts.
For those interested in the business side of Youtube, shorts though not the most lucrative component of our channel do attract a much wider audience and act as a decent funnel, plus if we can make short content educational, I view this as an absolute win!
We’ve received a decent amount of orders for DNA and have had it prepped and printed in the correct quantity. We’ve received most of what we ordered, but we’re still waiting for one more item (which should arrive shortly). Once this arrives, we will begin shipping out the orders. For those who ordered, a big thank you, as this development means a lot to us. Plasmids are still on sale (we ordered a bit more stock to keep on hand) So get yours now!
Some of you may have seen our community post on the matter, but we’re looking for Canadian businesses who would like to advertise with us. We also have a sizeable audience in the UK, the EU and Oceania, and would be open to advertise or collaborate with businesses based there as well. If you think your business’ product would be a good match for our channel, please reach out to us at thoughtemporiumads@gmail.com.
From the Cutting Room Floor
Heh I was afraid of this… We’ve officially caught up with the manga and now we’ve got to squeeze in fillers!
So spoilers it is!
We’ve received a bunch of equipment from sponsors that will allow us to do some really neat stuff. For example, the complaints in our most recent DNA video of not having the correct equipment to timelapse the repressilator circuit we got sent a serious piece of kit, which we have immediately put to good use.
At the same time our ad for Canadian companies wishing to advertise with us got us in contact with some really cool companies that have interesting products. As many of you have seen, in the background we have been working on a seriously large bioreactor system, and of course we have smaller culture flasks which work great in our incubators. We were missing a small table top instrumented bioreactor, well missing no longer. We’re looking forward to putting it through its paces and best of all this piece of equipment and the company behind it seem committed to keeping things open source.
In The Works
Most of what was previously in the works still is. Control system and the electronics for the CT scanner have arrived, we’ve hit a snag on the shielding and that’s sadly not something we can skimp out on. But we’ll iron those kinks out. In the meantime we’ve taken on a few bio projects that we can set up in the background to let them “cook” so to say. Some do require the CT scanner to cook though so, that’s inconvenient.
On the bio-robotic horror front, we made progress. The protocols were refined and the various unknowns from the various papers we parsed have been un-unknowned. It’ll require a new attempt though and that’ll have to wait till at least June, as in May Justin will be travelling to France for a site visit and to film interviews for an upcoming video. More on that next month as we might have some interesting funny stories to share. Hopefully Justin doesn’t get lost in the catacombs though…
Neat Finds
No, the dire wolf has not been brought back from extinction
Colossal Biosciences claims three pups born recently are dire wolves, but they are actually grey wolves with genetic edits intended to make them resemble the lost species.
Turns out the rate of arsenic absorption increases with temperature in submerged rice fields, which if you know how rice is grown, it's kind of submerged as it's planted to kill off weeds.
